Manalox 730™
Thickening Agent for Oil Systems
The degree of thickening is controlled by the amount of Manalox 730 added and the rate at which the oil thickens is temperature dependent. The level of Manalox 730 required varies depending on the type of oil used and the gel structure desired, but generally falls between 2.0% and 5.0% by volume relative to oil. Manalox 730 is highly recommended for customers who require short oil thickening and gelling times as well as for those in the oilfield chemicals business who are looking for alternatives to phosphorous based gellant systems.
The effectiveness of Manalox 730 in gelling diesel fuel, kerosene, and #2 fuel oil can be represented by the chart shown below.
Gelling kerosene, diesel fuel, and #2 fuel oil with Manalox 730/XP-454 activator system.
The gel times reported in the chart above were determined by Vortex Closure Tests. The amounts of Manalox 730 gellant and XP-454 Activator used were 3.6 mls and 1.25 mls respectively per 100 mls of oil. The exact test procedure used is available upon request.
Manalox 730 will react rapidly and irreversibly with atmospheric moisture to form partial hydrolysis products with consequent loss in expected chemical reactivity. Drum quantities should be stored in dry surroundings, away from the possibility of water collecting on the lids. Laboratory quantities should be kept tightly sealed to maintain reactivity.
